South Ayrshire is often referred to as Scotland’s golf coast and is home to some of the most well known and best golf courses in the world. Royal Troon, Turnberry, Gailes and Prestwick courses all offer the discerning golfer the challenge and beauty that make golf the game we love.

In addition to those courses there are numerous others ranging in the test they offer to the golfers skill and of course there is the breathtaking scenery, fascinating history, fine food and drink and bustling market towns to please the golfer and non golfer alike.

In addition 2009 marks the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns' birth in the area they will celebrate his life and work at many Burns-related events during the year.

Robert Burns was born in Alloway, Ayrshire on 25 January 1759. Although he lived a short life, dying at the age of 37, it was fulfilling and eventful. Starting out as a farmer then moving on to become a writer. The stunning Ayrshire scenery helped provide the insight for compiling much of his romantic material.

The scenery also had an impact 150 years ago when on Wednesday 17 October 1860 a small group of individuals made their way towards the sandhills of Prestwick to make history as they competed in the first ever round of The Open Golf Championship.

Scotland’s Golf Coast now awaits you.
