South Ayrshire is often referred to as Scotland’s golf coast and is home to some of the most well known and best golf courses in the world. Royal Troon, Turnberry, Gailes and Prestwick courses all offer the discerning golfer the challenge and beauty that make golf the game we love.
In addition to those courses there are numerous others ranging in the test they offer to the golfers skill and of course there is the breathtaking scenery, fascinating history, fine food and drink and bustling market towns to please the golfer and non golfer alike.
This area provided inspiration over 250 years ago to the famous writer - Robert Burns and the scenery also had an impact 150 years ago when on Wednesday 17 October 1860 a small group of individuals made their way towards the sandhills of Prestwick to make history as they competed in the first ever round of The Open Golf Championship.
